James Muir is a Client Services Director for First Names Group in Jersey.
Very much a designer at heart, James applies creative thinking in a robust and logical manner. Managing a senior team who are responsible for developing and maintaining key client relationships, he is always ready with a clever idea or approach to solve a problem. His financial training gives him a distinct advantage in assessing clients’ needs and building the best structures to deliver their objectives.

Indulging a boyhood passion for flying, James headed to Bristol University to study aeronautical engineering, graduating with an honours degree in 1990. After a spell working with the design team at Rolls Royce, he felt his future was more likely to be in an office than a workshop. Training and qualifying with a local accounting practice in Jersey, James is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.

Being approachable to clients and colleagues alike is fundamental to James’ working style. He listens carefully before implementing practical solutions, always circling back to ensure that he remains on brief. James really enjoys working with Ben Newman as they share a very similar sense of humour and have the same approach to exceptional client service. He also appreciates practical minded Paul Rondel; Stuart Truscott, for whom nothing is too much of a bother; and Tom Hardman’s sincerity. They are committed, steadfast members of his team who all exude positivity.
FIRST FLIGHT: ABOARD A TRIDENT AIRLINER AGED SIX
It’s handy having an engineer around the house – and James can be relied upon to tackle almost any household repair or improvement. With two active young children he is more likely to be found on the side of a rugby training ground or on a bike than pottering away in the shed however. Hoping to instil an early appreciation for flying, he is taking his family across the Atlantic to Barbados for the holidays.
