Name: Alice Huelin
Job title: Junior Marketing Assistant
Department: Group Marketing, PR and Communications
When did you join First Names Group? June 2016, just two weeks after finishing my exams!
What made you choose First Names Group? First Names Group is a growing company with such a strong brand. I felt like it would be a great opportunity to start my career in a place that has potential to offer so much.
What is the best thing about your job? I’m based in Jersey but am working with people in all jurisdictions on a daily basis. On a single task I’ll I often work with First Names who are spread out around the globe. It could be Switzerland and Isle of Man one day, and then Hong Kong and Singapore the next!
What makes First Names Group such a special place to work? The focus on developing me as an individual, and as part of my team, makes me feel really valued. The culture enables you to understand how you are important to your team and to the business as a whole.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? I really aspire to work in another country, ideally in a big city! The thought of working in a new environment and culture, backed up by skills and experience First Names Group has given me, is an exciting and motivating thought.
What professional qualifications are you doing? I am not working towards any at the moment, but I’d really like to start studying with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
What do you do to unwind? I love to go for a long run on the beach in the evening. It really helps me let off steam! Other than that, listening to some good music or settling down to watch a good film with family and friends is a great way to relax.
What’s the First Names Group social scene like? Really great! I’ve been involved in both sports and social activities since I started here including touch rugby, the summer beach party and team nights out. The month-end drinks are a great way to meet other people around the office. Some might say that the nature of having a fairly large office makes it harder to get to know people, but I think really enhances the social scene.
What did you want to be when you were 10? I wanted to be an interior designer! I used to love rearranging my room, painting things, sticking things with blue tack and cutting out clippings from magazines to decorate the walls, doors, windows and my bed. My parents would probably say it’s a good thing I’ve ended up in marketing instead!
How did you celebrate your degree result? I was actually at work when I found out my degree result. I went straight out to lunch with friends and family and cracked open something fizzy. My team arranged for a gorgeous box of cupcakes to be delivered to my desk the next day. I still have their card pinned on my desk :)
What’s your favourite possession? I would struggle without my phone, but I guess that’s more of a necessity… I did get a beautiful necklace for my 21st birthday that I wear every day. It’s my birthstone – a diamond!
Favourite drink? Depends on the weather. A full-fat Coke on a hot summer’s day, or in the winter I love a proper hot chocolate made with Dairy Milk!
Night on the town or on the sofa? Night on the sofa for me. My friends (and family!) say that I’m old before my time, but in my opinion there’s nothing better than a cosy evening in with a tub of ice cream and a good thriller on TV.
